How to get Google reviews for your business.

Your direct review link, a QR code for the counter, the text message that gets replies, how to answer bad reviews, and the two things that will get your profile penalised.

Reviews are the end of one sale and the start of the next. Most businesses get them by accident. Here is how to get them on purpose.

Get your direct review link

In your Google Business Profile, look for "Ask for reviews" (or "Get more reviews"). It gives you a short link that opens the review box directly, no searching, no scrolling. Save it. Everything below uses it.

Make the ask automatic

The best moment is the day the job is done or the appointment is over, while the experience is fresh. Set up a text message that goes out automatically from your CRM or booking tool:

"Thanks for choosing us today, Maria. If you have 30 seconds, a Google review helps a small business more than you'd think: [link]. Either way, thank you."

Short, personal, one link. Expect somewhere between one in five and one in three to respond. That is far more than any "please review us" sign.

Put it where people already are

  • A QR code at the counter or on the invoice, pointing to the link.
  • A line in your email signature.
  • A button on your website's thank-you page.

Reply to every review

Thank the good ones briefly and specifically. For bad ones: stay calm, acknowledge, offer to fix it offline, keep it short. You are writing for the hundred people who will read it later, not for the one who was upset.

Spread them out

A hundred reviews in a week looks bought, and Google's filters agree. A steady flow of a few per week is healthier and harder to lose.

What not to do

  • Don't pay or give discounts for reviews. It breaks Google's rules and can get reviews removed or the profile suspended.
  • Don't gate. Asking only happy customers (by screening first) is also against the rules.
  • Don't write them yourself or ask staff and family. It is obvious, and it is removable.
  • Don't argue in public. Nobody has ever won that.

If you get a fake or unfair review

Flag it from the profile, choose the reason, and be patient. Removal is slow and not guaranteed. In the meantime, a calm reply and a steady flow of real reviews do more than the flag will.

The setup, in one afternoon

Direct link saved, automatic post-job text written and turned on, QR code printed, a weekly ten minutes to reply. That is the whole system, and it compounds every month. We build this into every CRM we set up because it is the cheapest marketing there is.
