Answer "why are you more expensive?"

An AI prompt that prepares calm, honest answers to price objections for calls, texts and emails, built on what genuinely makes you different.

Every business that is not the cheapest hears it: "The other guy quoted less." Most owners either drop the price on the spot or get defensive. Both cost money.

The answer is preparation. Know what genuinely sets you apart, have a calm way to say it, and know when to let a job go. This prompt builds that script from your real strengths.

How to use it

  • List what you actually do differently, even if it feels obvious to you: warranty, crew, materials, communication, clean-up, licences.
  • Run the prompt and practise the phone answers out loud until they sound like you.
  • Save the text and email versions as quick replies in your phone or CRM.

Help me answer price objections confidently and honestly.

Business: [name], [what we do] in [city]
Typical job and price range: [details]
What genuinely makes us different (true things only): [e.g. warranty, licensed and insured, same crew start to finish, premium materials, clean-up, clear communication]
Common competitor shortcuts we see (facts, not insults): [e.g. no permits, cheaper materials, subcontracted crews]
Our walk-away point: [e.g. we do not discount below X; we can reduce scope instead]

Write:
1. Three clarifying questions to ask before defending the price.
2. A spoken answer for the phone (under 60 seconds when read aloud), calm and warm.
3. A text reply (under 300 characters) and an email reply (under 120 words).
4. A way to offer a lower-cost option by reducing scope, not quality.
5. A graceful exit line for customers who only want the cheapest price.

Rules: never criticise a competitor by name, never invent facts, no pressure tactics. Sound confident, not defensive. Canadian English.

The principles

  • Ask before you answer. "What did their quote include?" often reveals they are not comparing like with like.
  • Price is the cost of what is included. Walk through the difference, calmly.
  • Never criticise competitors. Explain what you do, and let the customer draw the conclusion.
  • Know your walk-away point. Some customers only buy on price; letting them go frees your calendar for those who value the work.
