For a local business, the Google Business Profile is often the first thing a customer sees, before your website, on Google Maps and in search. Profiles that are complete and active tend to show up more and get more calls.
Most profiles have a one-line description written years ago and no posts. These prompts fill the gaps in one sitting: the description, services, the questions people ask, and four weeks of posts.
How to use it
- Gather the basics: services, areas, hours, what makes you different (true things only).
- Run prompt 1 once, paste the results into your profile at business.google.com.
- Run prompt 2 every month for that month's posts. Add a real photo to each post; photos of your own work outperform stock images.
Prompt 1: description, services and Q&A
Write content for my Google Business Profile. Business: [name], [main category, e.g. Roofing contractor] City and service areas: [list] Services (main ones first): [list] What makes us different (true things only): [list] Years in business, licences, warranties: [details] Questions customers often ask: [list 5 to 8] Write: 1. Business description (max 750 characters): what we do, for whom, where, why choose us, and a call to action. Mention the main service and city naturally. No URLs, no phone numbers, no all-caps, no prices. 2. Services list: each service with a 1 to 2 sentence description (max 300 characters each). 3. Q&A: 6 questions in the customer's words, each with a clear 2 to 3 sentence answer. Rules: only use facts I gave you. Friendly, plain language. Canadian English.
Prompt 2: a month of weekly posts
Write 4 weekly Google Business Profile posts for [month]. Business: [name], [what we do] in [city] This month: [e.g. busy season starting, a new service, a holiday, recent jobs] Recent jobs or photos I can use: [list] Offer (only if real): [details or "none"] Each post: 100 to 250 words maximum but open with the most useful line, one clear button suggestion (Book, Call, Learn more), and a note on which photo to attach. Mix: one recent job, one helpful tip answering a customer question, one behind the scenes, one seasonal reminder or offer. Mention the service and area naturally. No invented facts. Canadian English.
Keep it working
- Answer every review (see our review reply prompt in the guides).
- Add photos monthly. Recent photos of real jobs, the team and the shop.
- Keep hours exact, including holidays. Wrong hours cost more trust than anything else.
Google does not allow keyword stuffing in your business name, and it can suspend profiles that do it. Use your real business name only; put services in the description and services list.
