Most owners who call us about a website don't say "I want a new design." They say things like:
- "People tell me the site looks nice, but nobody calls from it."
- "Someone built it years ago and I can't change a phone number without paying them."
- "When I search for my own service in Kanata, three competitors show up and I don't."
- "The contact form goes to an inbox nobody checks."
Those are not design problems. They are business problems that happen to live on a website. That's how we treat them.
What a website that works looks like
A good small business website does four jobs. It tells a stranger in five seconds what you do and where. It answers the questions they would otherwise phone to ask. It makes the next step obvious: call, book, or ask for a quote. And it gets found, both on Google and in the AI tools people now use to ask "who's a good flooring installer in Barrhaven?"
Behind the scenes it is fast on a phone, readable by people using screen readers, simple for you to edit, and every enquiry lands somewhere a person will see it within minutes.
How we build it
1. A free call about your numbers, not your colours. What does a customer bring in? Which services do you want more of? Which areas do you want to win: Orléans, Stittsville, the whole Ottawa–Gatineau region? This shapes every page.
2. A page plan built around how people search. One clear page per main service, and pages for the areas you actually serve, so each one can rank for searches like "deck builder Nepean." No filler pages written to hit a word count.
3. Words before pixels. We write the copy from the questions you get on the phone, in plain language. If you sell to Gatineau or to federal departments, we plan the French version from the start rather than bolting on a translation plugin later.
4. Design and build. Clean, quick, built on a platform that suits you, whether that's WordPress, a hosted builder or a fully custom site. We test it on real phones on a slow connection, because that's how a homeowner standing in a flooded basement will see it.
5. Ready for Google and for AI search. Proper titles and headings, structured data so search engines understand your services, hours and service area, a Google Business Profile that matches the site, and clear question-and-answer sections that AI assistants can quote. Our free website and AI-search checkup shows what this looks like on your current site.
6. Accessible by default. Ontario organisations with 50 or more employees must meet WCAG 2.0 Level AA under the AODA. Smaller businesses aren't required to, but the same work (good contrast, labelled forms, keyboard navigation, alt text) helps every visitor and helps search engines too. We build to that standard either way.
7. Launch with tracking. Calls, form fills and bookings are counted from day one, so after a month you know what the site is actually producing.
Why one team makes the website better
This is where 1 Club is different from a design studio. The team that builds your site is the same team that handles your domain, your email and your security. In practice that means:
- Your form emails are sent with proper email authentication (SPF, DKIM and DMARC), so enquiries don't end up in spam. We set those records ourselves, because we also manage the DNS.
- The form feeds straight into your CRM and a missed-call text-back if you want one, instead of a lonely inbox.
- When the site moves to a new host, nobody breaks your Microsoft 365 email in the process.
- If something goes down on a Friday night, you call one number. Nobody blames "the hosting company" or "the IT guy."
We've built websites for Noble Stone Flooring, Kadri Construction, North Coast Customs and Roadrunner Transport, and the brand and website for Soublière Group.
Three ways to start
1. Do it yourself, free. Run the website checkup to see speed, search and AI-readiness gaps. Then use our prompts to write a homepage that turns visitors into enquiries or a service page that ranks in your city.
2. Done with you. We plan the pages, write the structure and review your drafts. You or your current web person build it. Good if you already have a site you like and just need it to work harder.
3. Done for you. We plan, write, design, build, launch and track it, then keep it fast and up to date. You review and approve; we do the rest.
